Peace – Tempera on canvas by Pietro Soliani for the displays of the feast celebrate in Reggio Emilia on May 17, 1801 on the occasion of the peace of Luneville
La Pace

The peace of Lunéville between France and Austria was celebrated in Reggio with a great patriotic party. A monumental architectural structure was erected on the western side of the city’s main square, decorated with damasks. It was built by the architect Giovanni Paglia to a design by Pietro Ferrarini, while the allegorical paintings that adorned it were by the painter Pietro Sogliani. Two triumphal floats symbolising Victory and Peace also paraded, preceded by the National Guard and followed by the Battalion of Hope. In the evening, the celebrations ended with the burning of a firework display in the form of a triumphal arch.
